A periodontist is a specialist who, in addition to traditional dental school, has completed advanced studies in teeth, gums and bone. Because of the advanced training the periodontist can provide many beneficial procedures including:
- Periodontal Disease Control
- Implants and Prosthetics
- Cosmetic Enhancement
- Gum Recession Treatment
- Plastic Surgery
Periodontal disease covers many types and stages from gingivitis to periodontitis. Gingivitis (inflammation, redness and tenderness of gums), starts with a build-up of plaque (bacteria) and tartar (minerals) at the gum line and between teeth. If left untreated, gingivitis leads to periodontitis and the loss of bone that supports teeth.
